Shakyamuni Buddha

Shakyamuni Buddha is the historical Buddha Gautama, who lived in India in about 500 BC, who founded Buddhism. He is usually shown sitting in the full lotus posture on the discs of sun and moon, which are on a lotus blossom supported by a lion throne. His body is gold in colour, wears the three robes of a monk, his hair is dark blue, and the golden emblem of enlightenment/wisdom rises above the protuberance on his head. In his left hand he holds the blue/black iron begging bowl of a monk, while his right hand touches the earth in the “earth witness” gesture, invoking the earth to be a witness to his supreme realization.
